I am a lecturer at the Faculty of information who specializes in reference work and government information. I teach courses in Introductory Reference Librarianship, Reference Services Administration, Canadian, U.S. and International Government Information, and Data Librarianship.
My main areas of academic interest are the documentation of the League of Nations, historical international statistics and the documentation of unrepresented states and liberation movements. I am currently researching the use of IGO publications as sources of statistics in the inter-war period and am writing a guide to Canadian government publications.
I was a 1993 graduate of this faculty who ran the Canadian Institute of International Affairs Library before becoming International Documents Librarian and Head of the Government Publications and Map Department at Northwestern University in Evanston Illinois. After returning to Canada, I worked at York University Library while teaching the government information courses at what was then known as FIS. I am heavily involved in the international documents community and am the founder of the INTL-DOC LISTSERV as well as an owner of GOVINFO, the discussion list for librarians working with Canadian government documents. As an instructor who came to the iSchool after a number of years in the field, I emphasize the practical in my courses. I encourage any and all students interested in a career as reference specialists, especially those interested in academic librarianship, to come and see me.
